Planner Haul: Etsy Edition

In September I did some shopping on Etsy and ended up making some purchases from Crafty Planner Addict and Simply Me, Kish. They both had such cute stickers that I couldn't resist! When I got my orders in the mail, I knew I would have to share them with you all!

Planner Haul: Etsy Edition

From Crafty Planner Addict I bought a lot of holiday/seasonal stickers and some of the cutest every day planner stickers from Simply Me. I was really pleased with both shops. Despite ordering over Labor Day weekend, I received both packages fairly quickly. They both arrived in good condition and with some freebies (of course!).

From Crafty Planner Addict I bought some super cute stickers for Fall and Thanksgiving. All together these come to $9, which is pretty reasonable when it comes to planner stickers. If you're looking for lots of owl stickers or some cute holiday or seasonal stickers for your planner, this shop is full of options! There's some adorable winter and Christmas stickers I've got my eyes on, too. She also has lots of the more day-to-day planner stickers for things like laundry and pay day stickers.

From Simply Me, Kish I got some kind of random planner stickers that I just had to have! One thing I love about this shop is that for $3.50 you get 2 sheets of stickers. All together I spent $10.50 on these stickers and I really feel like it was worth it for 6 sheets. I also love how big these stickers are. A lot of planner stickers are rather small, but sometimes I just want something that takes up a bit more space. These are the perfect size for me and I really like how this shop has a variety of practical and cute planner stickers!

Weekend Wrap Up No. 12

This week I've been a lot happier and more motivated which is good because this week has been crazy! I had a ton of reading and studying to do this week with my first exam of the semester on Friday and my second one coming next week. Plus a new season of TV shows started, which means Scream Queens and TGIT!

On the blog I was nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award and shared a post with some facts about me and my nominees for the award. I also shared some tips to help you if you're getting bad grades, and how to make your own popcorn bar for your next movie night!

Weekend Wrap Up No. 12

After classes today I headed back to my family's home to pet-sit while the rest of my family was able to visit my brother who goes to college 6 hours away. I ran some errands, including a trip to Dollar Tree (couldn't resist!). I picked up some cute photo props plus I found Halloween and Christmas washi! I felt like I found the holy grail. I controlled myself though and only bought 3 washis for each holiday. After that I spent some time taking care of the pets and started decorating my monthly pages in my Bullet Journal.

Saturday I got some reading done for class, got a few inches of my hair cut off, and fit in a bit of blog work. I also made some more Taco Mac & Cheese so I could take photos for a recipe post next week and took the dogs for a little walk.

Sunday the weekend ended with some more homework (bleh!), a phone call with my mom, and working on lesson plans.

And here's some pictures from the weekend:

DIY Popcorn Bar

Earlier this month I shared some of my movie recommendations for a movie night with friends, so I figured this week I would show you a way to make your movie night extra special with a popcorn bar!

DIY Popcorn Bar - Fun foods to add into your popcorn

Besides your basic ingredient - popcorn - you should have some bowls out with a few fun foods to add in. Here's a few things I like to add in.

  • M&Ms
  • Marshmallows
  • Gummies
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Peanut Butter Chips
  • (Frosted) Pretzels
  • Favorite candy
  • Popcorn Seasonings
  • Raisins
  • Trail Mix
  • Peanuts
  • Melted Peanut Butter

The marshmallows are my personal favorite. They go perfectly with popcorn since the marshmallows add a little sweetness and a different texture to the snack. I absolutely love it.

I think candy is the best thing to add to popcorn when having a movie night with friends - I mean everyone likes candy! You could even ask everyone to bring a bag or box of their favorite candy. You'll get some help paying for the popcorn bar and you  might even learn something new about your friends!

Have you ever created a popcorn bar? What's your favorite thing to add in to your popcorn?

What To Do If You're Failing

College is great the first few weeks - friends, football games, ordering pizza every week - but then exams and papers start coming and the reality of a new school year sets in. Getting your scores back can be stressful, but getting back a failing (or close to failing) score can really make your stomach sink. As a senior who has, admittedly, failed a test or two, I have some advice on what to do after you get that F.

Versatile Blogger Award

So, exciting news: I was nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award! I was nominated by a lovely girl, Jazmine, who I met during a blog chat on Twitter. Her blog is Happiness with a  Side of Tea where Jazmine writes about college and features lots of great guest posts (including some great outfit posts).

Versatile Blogger Award

The Versatile Blogger Award rules are pretty simple:
  • Thank the person(s) who nominated you.
  • Include a link to their blog(s).
  • Write seven facts about yourself.
  • Nominate fifteen bloggers to pass the award along to.

7 Facts About Me:

  1. I just got my first pet (that's all mine to take care of) this summer. I have a western painted turtle named Burt. He is just about the cutest thing!
  2. I studied abroad in Costa Rica summer 2014. I lived with a host family and went to the Universidad Nacional in Heredia. It was my first time living in a city and I loved it. It's also nestled in the central valley and the mountains were only a short bus ride away, so I made sure to visit them a few times.
  3. I've been studying Spanish for 7+ years. I tried learning a little Spanish on my own during my middle school years and absolutely fell in love with it during high school. I had 2 teachers from Spain which made learning the language and the culture amazing. Now I'm studying to be a Spanish teacher (one year until I student teach)!
  4. I didn't know I could draw until high school. I'm not saying I had never drawn before, but I had never realized that I was good at it. My younger brother had always been the artist in the family, so I had never really tried to be. My freshman year of high school I took art just to fulfill my fine arts requirement, and discovered that I love  it. I love doodling, drawing, and painting. I found out I was actually pretty good at drawing people. Lesson being: you don't know if you're good at something until you try it.
  5. I’m a worrier. My worst habit is worrying. I worry about things before it happens (even if it's only a possibility). I worry about things being good enough (and if I'm good enough). I worry about grades, my friends, my family, me, my future, everything. But I've been working on it for a while and I've found that what helps me is to think about things rationally and give myself a pep talk, plan and make lists, and talk to friends or my mom about what I'm worried about. If you're honest with other people about it, you can learn how they've dealt with it or find out that it's actually totally normal to feel a certain way.
  6. I love conspiracy theories. If there is a conspiracy show on Netflix, I have to watch it. I love them. I don't necessarily believe in them (certainly not all of them), but it's interesting to think about things in a different way. I kind of enjoy having my beliefs challenged and questioning the validity of "facts" and things we know. Also, some of them are hilarious and I get a big kick out of it. Ancient Aliens? Oh yeah.
  7. I love learning. I spent some time this summer reading about philosophy - for fun. I'm usually the one in class who answers the teacher and asks questions. My favorite things to learn about are history, cultures, psychology, and languages.

So now that you know some fun, weird, and  interesting facts about myself, it's my turn to nominate a few bloggers!

I nominate...
Krystal   Little Beauty Bug
Vianca   Smiley Shares
Corin     Wonderland Paths
Emma    It's Emma Mack

Be sure to give these lovelies' blogs a look and leave them a comment or two! They're really some great bloggers :)

Can you relate to any of these things about me? Have you ever been nominated for a blogger award?

Weekend Wrap Up No. 11

This week I've been super unmotivated. I struggled to get up on time, didn't make it to the gym, and even ran away to do a little shopping because I couldn't bear to do any more school work. I'm hoping that this weekend will have given me some time to recuperate and start a new week with a better mindset.

On the blog I shared a few movies you should watch on your next movie night and a couple of my favorite blogs.

Friday was my sister's 18th birthday so I made the trip home for her special day! We enjoyed some cheesecake, she opened her presents, and we ate at her favorite restaurant - the local Chinese restaurant. After we watched TheAge of Adaline, but I thought it was pretty predictable. I got the entire story line from the commercials.

Saturday I visited my grandma who was babysitting a bunch of the little cousins (From a fourth grader down to a 1 year old!). I taught my fourth grade cousin a few animal names and the alphabet in Spanish (she thinks it's so cool) and of course did a lot of running around with all those little kids! They're so fun!

In the afternoon my family and I went out to a couple stores and to Cherry on Top for frozen yogurt to top off our festivities for my sister's birthday weekend.

Sunday I left early to head back to my apartment. I got some grocery shopping done and bought some healthier foods than last week so hopefully that will help me make better choices this week! I also did some reading for my history class and studied for my first exam of the semester on Friday.

And here's some pictures from the weekend:

Favorite Blogs

Finding new blogs is so easy, but sometimes it takes a while to find the ones that you absolutely love. Today I'm going to gush about a few of my favorite blogs.

Favorite Blogs

This is the first blog I started seriously reading and it continues to be one of my favorites. I've love Carly's journey from an overwhelmed college student who started a blog as an escape from the stress of school, to being a self-employed, full time blogger in New York City, and now starting her next adventure in Connecticut!

This blog is a more recent find, but I'm very much in love. I love her Friday Five series - it's such a great way to recap the week and it's a little different each time. Jemma is pretty funny and I love all the bright colors always included in her photos - it just makes me happy! She posts about so many different things, you'll find something you love on her blog no matter what you like to read about.

Rebecca's blog is so lovely. There's no other way to describe it! Her posts are always so helpful and interesting. Her photos are always filled with light and gorgeous. She has posts on everything from procrastinating productively to blogging tips to beauty to general life tips. If you need advice on anything, she's your go to gal. Another thing I love - her blog and posts have such a simple, uncomplicated layout - it's like a breath of fresh air whenever I open it up.

Graceful + Lovely is actually a vlog, but I'm still including it in this list. I love watching her and her husband together (they're so cute!) and I love her shopping hauls. I'm always really picky when finding vloggers I like but I always feel like Lori is my friend and we're just having a chat! She does a great job with her videos.

Do you read these blogs? What are some of your favorites to read?

Movie Night Ideas

Everyone loves a night in, but who says nights in have to be spent all alone? Invite some friends over, get some snacks ready, and have a movie night! My friends and I generally prefer comedies, though sometimes we go for a suspense movie. These are a few of my favorite comedy movies to watch with friends.

3 Favorite Movies for Movie Night with Friends

My friends and I laugh so much whenever we watch this movie! Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy are both hilarious on their own, but together they are an absolute riot.

Quick synopsis: The Heat is follows an FBI agent, Ashburn (Bullock) who is very good at her job, but very difficult to get along with. She gets sent to a job in Boston where she meets Mullins (McCarthy) a local cop who is very difficult to get along with in her own way. They both learn to work together and take down the city's drug lord.

Favorite Funny Line
Ashburn: They're spanx! They hold everything together.

Mullins: Why? What's gonna come popping out?

If you and your friends are ready to get in the Halloween spirit, this is the movie to watch. But really, you can watch it any time of year! I never get tired of watching this morbidly funny movie. It has some of the funniest lines.

Quick Synopsis: Gomez's accountant is in need of some money to pay of a loan shark. Taking advantage of the Addams' who are searching for the long lost Uncle Fester, he forms a con with his loan shark and her son. Together they try to pull one over on the Addams.

Favorite Funny Line
Margaret Alford: And what about you dear? Where's your costume?
Wednesday: This is my costume. I'm a homicidal maniac. They look just like everyone else.

This movie may be over a decade old (I know, it's hard to believe), but it is still one of the best movies. Sports, feminism, and friendship - what more is there to life?

Quick Synopsis: Jess comes from a conservative Indian family living in London. Although she loves soccer, her family doesn't think it's proper for a girl to do. That doesn't stop Jess from playing in the park with friends, which is where she meets Jules. Jules convinces Jess to try out for the team Jules plays on and the girls quickly become friends as they're both dealing with families who disapprove of their playing sports. Of course their friendship gets messy with a cute coach, weddings and tournaments on the same day, and family troubles.

Favorite Funny Line
Wedding Guest: Lesbian? Her birthday's in March! I thought she was a Pisces.

What are your favorites to watch for a movie night with friends?

Weekend Wrap Up No. 10

This week the reality of a new school year started to sink in. My first paper was due and now it's time to start studying for my first exams of the semester! Don't worry though, I'm still enjoying my classes. My first class of the day is a discussion class and so interesting which makes it easier to wake up in the morning.

I also have made it to the gym at least twice for two weeks. This is major progress for me! I'm always "trying" to be healthier (isn't everyone?), but last week I decided to make going to the gym a part of my schedule. So on Tuesdays and Thursdays when I don't have classes, I'll be hitting the gym in the morning. Hopefully this will last, even as the weather gets colder (and colder).

On the blog I shared a few ways to decorate for Fall and some tips to help you make time for yourself. I've seen several people posting about putting themselves last on their list (just like me), so hopefully this will help you guys to make yourselves more of a priority, too!

Friday I started my weekend by making a little run to the store. I got a few goodies for taking blog photos and I couldn't resist getting a few washis - they're my weakness! Back at my apartment I set up all my planner supplies in the living room and got to work journaling and decorating my planner. After that I spent my evening editing photos, chatting with the other #bdibNA bloggers, blog reading, and watching a few shows on Netflix.

Saturday I started my morning by reading a few new blogs and getting a load of laundry started. Then I got texts from both my brother and mom that Pocahontas was on ABC Family, so I HAD to tune in! (Obviously, my family knows who my favorite Disney princess is.) While watching Pocahontas I cooked up Taco Macaroni & Cheese - something I just thought up on my last trip to the grocery store - and it was delicious!

In the afternoon I started reading a new book I just got - The Giftsof Imperfection by Brené Brown. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, but I'm trying to work on it and let go of some of those perfectionist tendencies. When I was ordering books online for class, I saw this and felt like I should get it. I'm so glad I did! Even the first 2 chapters had me totally inspired and thinking about what's truly important and how to live a more "wholehearted life."

After reading I cleaned up my cooking mess in the kitchen and started putting away laundry when my mom called. We had a lovely little chat and then I got to doing some blog planning for the upcoming week. I also got some homework done before heading over to my friends' house.

The weekend ended on Sunday with some blog reading and reading my new book, #lbloggers chat on Twitter and a little homework and laundry before enjoying pizza and a movie with friends.

I had a pretty great weekend, but sadly I didn't really take any photos of it. I'm afraid I have none to share with you, but I hope you still enjoyed the post!

How to Make Time for Yourself

Classes have started and my schedule is getting filled quickly. Between housework, organizations, studying, work, blogging, and spending time with friends. Trying to manage all of this makes it easy to put making time for yourself on the back burner. This usually results in me feeling worn out, depressed, and stressed about getting everything done. It's SO important to make time for yourself! You have to be able to get a little break in everyday for yourself to recuperate and stay motivated. Here are a few ways to make time for yourself.

How to Make Time for Yourself

Make it a part of your routine.

Wake up an hour earlier so you have that extra time to focus on doing something you enjoy, getting a small workout in, or practicing yoga. If you're not as much of a morning person, you can choose a certain time each day at which you'll stop working on other projects. I try to stop working on school work at 5:00 so I can enjoy my evening. Of course sometimes I have to meet a group for a project in the evening or take an evening class, but setting a time that is your personal quitting time is a great way to make time for yourself.

Value yourself.

When I don't make time for myself, it's usually because I'm not valuing my happiness or health. Instead, I put all my energy into getting stuff done for classes, organizations I'm involved in, and getting stuff ready for work. Even though these are things I enjoy, meeting deadlines and the pressure I put on myself to do well in these things can make them very stressful for me. That's why it's important for me to set aside a bit of my day to do things to take care of myself. Setting aside this time is really a way of letting myself know I'm important and deserve my time just as much as these other things.

Schedule it in.

If you're really busy, you just have to schedule time for yourself. Write it in your planner and don't schedule anything else during this time. You can make it an hour on Thursday, a whole afternoon, or even an all-day event to make up for a hectic week.

How do you make time for yourself? What do you do with it?

Easy Ways to Decorate for Fall

I've already gone on about some of my favorite things about fall, but I left out one little thing - decorating for fall! I'm slowly building up a collection of fall decorations. I of course wanted to share with you lovelies a few of the ways that I decorate for fall on a budget!

4 easy ways to decorate for fall

Desk Corner

I've shown some of the ways I decorate my little desk corner in the past. Basically, I have this white mug and black frame I purchased from Dollar Tree, and every month or holiday, I switch up what I'm decorating these items with. For fall I got a cute orange ribbon to tie around the mug and I cut a little triangle into each end of the ribbon for a little extra flair. I found some super pretty fall stickers at Walmart so I used those to create a "wreath" around my handlettered "Otoño" (which means "fall/autumn" in Spanish). I'm quite the fan of this little set up.

I recently became a lover of candles. I don't know how I lived without a huge selection of them! I've mostly collected fruity summer scents, but I'm excited to start buying a few more fall scents. I have Falling Leaves from Sonoma which smells AMAZING. I'm looking to get an apple, a pumpkin pie, and a vanilla scent, too.

What's more fall like than pumpkins? Of course you can always decorate with real pumpkins, but there's also a lot of cute pumpkin figurines to decorate with. I found the two light/bright orange pumpkin figurines at an antique store, and the dark orange pumpkin from Dollar Tree. I love these little guys!

What candy is better too keep on hand in fall than some candy corn! I thought it would be a good idea to display in a glass bowl.  I'm going to be honest, I don't like candy corn. But it's such a fall candy (and super cheap!), so I just went ahead and bought some. Hopefully my friends will like it. :) I put all these together on a little white tray I bought, so I have a cute little pop of fall on my table.

Weekend Wrap Up No. 09

I started my last first week of classes as a student this week! It's my senior year of college and next fall I'll be doing my student teaching already. It really is crazy how fast time goes - I feel like I just started college! I'm taking 5 classes, but only 3 have met so far (for various reasons). They're all really great and easy classes so far, so I think it will be a great semester. I also got a tutoring job this week through a series of random conversations! I'm so glad everything came together at just the right moment for me!

Weekend Wrap Up No. 09

Friday I started my 3 day weekend by spending some time with my family. I had some really great conversations with my mom and youngest brother. I really treasure moments like that where you can have wonderful conversations with people you love face to face.

There was also a lot of great food for one day! My mom had made peach pie and it was FANTASTIC. I'd been craving some pie all week, so this was just what I needed. I love the Chinese food restaurant in town and just haven't found any others that I like as much, so the three of us headed over there for dinner. I tried chow mein for the first time (I wasn't sure about the hard noodles!) and it was so good. I can't believe I've held off on trying it for so long!

Saturday I started my day with some snuggles from my cat and got her to play with her newest toy. She's very much a cat and can't be bothered to do things she doesn't want to, so this was only the second time I've gotten her to play with it.

In the afternoon my mom, brother, and I went shopping. I got 4 new pairs of shoes!! It sounds bad, but I really needed some new sandals and I waited for the nice sandals to go on sale at Scheel's. I also got a few goodies for planning at Michael's and Target. After a little nap I did a little more shopping online and got some goodies from XO Simply Kish and Crafty PlannerAddict. I couldn't resist!! Especially with all of the Labor Day sales going on! So I won't be spending very much money over the next week or two haha.

The weekend ended on Sunday with french toast made by dad for breakfast, some planning for a new week, and cleaning up Burt's tank.

And here's some pictures from the weekend:

How I Prep For A New Week

Everyone has their own routine for getting ready for a new week. Being the person I am, I try to do a few things over the weekend to get myself prepared for a new week.

How I Prep for a New Week

Meal plan and buy groceries for the week. When I meal plan I just write down several meals I'd like to make that week so when it's time to cook, I know what my options are. I take stock of what foods I already have and what I need to buy when making my list of meals and grocery list. I always go to the grocery store with a list of what to buy on the weekends so I don't forget anything and to prevent impulse purchases. I know the grocery store is busy on weekends, but I find it more convenient to do it on the weekend than during the week.

Get laundry and chores done. I don't know anyone who enjoys doing laundry, but it's something that's got to get done! I do mine over the weekend so it's one less thing I have to worry about doing during the week. I also try to tackle one cleaning project on the weekends like scrubbing down the kitchen or cleaning up my room - I'm known to let things pile up during the week. I also take care of any other chores that need done like vaccuming, taking the trash out, and washing dishes.

How I Prep for a New Week

Finish up class work. As a college student I have a seemingly never ending list of textbooks to read, assignments, tests to study for, and papers to write. Even though I work on this during the week, I use my weekends to catch up on class work if I've fallen behind, create summaries of notes, and (hopefully) get a head start for the upcoming week. I get stressed a little too easy, so doing a little extra work on the weekends helps me to feel a little more calm during the week and prevents me from having to pull all-nighters to cram the night before tests. Totally worth it.

Catch up on the news. The news can get pretty depressing, so I sometimes skip it during the week. I still want to be an informed citizen of the world, so I spend some time on weekend mornings catching up on the week's news. I prefer to just watch the news and enjoy hearing commentary on it (even though I wish they would just give me the facts and separate that from their opinions). Catching up on the weekends also means I don't have to watch as many fluff stories which is always a bonus.

Plan ahead for the upcoming week. Sunday evenings I write down a list of things I want/need to do that week, take a look at my planner and update it by adding any thing I forgot to write down or removing cancelled plans. I write down my to-do list for Monday in my bullet journal and decorate it with some washi, doodles, or stickers. I usually try to put a couple outfits together for the week to make getting ready in the mornings just that much easier. I also make sure my backpack is ready to go with all my class essentials and fully stocked with pencil lead and enough paper to get me through a week of note taking.

How I Prep for a New Week

Enjoy some me time. This is SO important for the weekends. I can easily fill my days during the week with classes, studying, errands, meetings, and other things I have to do. Even though I try to keep my evenings free, it doesn't always happen. That's why I really value my time on the weekends to do what I want to do. I'll get an art or craft project done, call home, spend time with friends, go to a store, take a walk outside, journal, read some stuff online, or enjoy a movie or tv show marathon. Part of prepping for a new week is getting yourself refreshed and ready to take on the new week! Some weeks I even try to get everything important done on Saturday so Sunday can be spent focused on getting myself energized.

What do you do to get ready for a new week? Are you going to add any of these things to your weekend routine?
